The Whitney Museum of American Art celebrated the groundbreaking for its new Renzo Piano designed 200,000 sq. ft. location with an American Art Award dinner and Groundbreaking Gala in a tent structure built on the site of the new museum.
The decor was inspired by the "groundbreaking", with a ceiling installation of 500 blue shovels and construction fencing used in the centerpieces and large scale logo wall. The evening wrapped with a performance by Debbie Harry.
